A Non-Profit Technical and Educational Organization
The Instrumentation Testing Association (ITA) is a non-profit technical and
educational organization. ITA is internationally governed
by 14 treatment facilities (both public and private, industrial and
municipal and representative of small, medium and large water, wastewater and
industrial systems). ITAs members include
water, wastewater and industrial treatment plants, consultants, manufacturers,
non-profits, and regulatory organizations. Read more about testing
organizations.

History
ITA was founded in 1984 at a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA)
meeting held in Chicago to address instrument performance and reliability issues
arising from low bid requirements of procuring
instrumentation. Treatment facilities wanted to identify quality
instruments for their water and wastewater treatment applications. ITA
devised a cooperative testing process in which instrument manufacturers are
invited to participate by donating equipment and treatment plants lend their
facility as a test site. All test participants (inclusive of manufacturers, ITA committee
members and treatment plant test site personnel) are involved in developing and
approving the test protocol.

Mission
ITAs mission is to advance the performance and reliability of instrumentation
and automation technologies used in water and wastewater treatment
facilities. ITAs mission was designed to improve the design of, promote
the application and understanding of and assist in the selection of
instrumentation and automation technologies used for monitoring and controlling
water, wastewater and industrial treatment systems. ITA carries out its mission
by conducting charitable, educational and scientific research and testing
regarding instrumentation design, maintenance and performance and disseminating
information through its published reports.
